I can bike there: Lopez Island

Started from the bottom now we’re here!

What’s better than getting to live on Lopez Island in your van, not really making money, and not really enjoying your job? You guessed it: visiting the island on your bike, with friends who will drive your beer to your campsite, and will also bring bikes to tour the island with you! You better believe the first stop on the tour was Holly B’s Bakery.

The view from the beach at Watmough Bay.

From the Bakery we conquered the 2 mile long climb out of the village, and no one had a heart-attack! We headed south on the island to one of my favorite beaches and stopped for a snack… and then we went to one of my favorite bluffs and stopped for a snack… you may be noticing a common theme.

The crew from L to R: Alli: the only one standing because she didn’t have to bike up the big hill. Tanya: fueling up after a grueling morning. Me: loving Chacos. Stef: realizing my bike bag is eerily similar to Mary Poppins’ bag, but with snacks! Chris: dreaming about the perfect skipping stone. Elinor: showing off her snack game. Matt: not pictured, but taking the picture.

Then it was time for the 10 mile peddle back, and you better believe we were getting stoked to ride down the two mile long hill, which lead back to food and beer. Convening at the at the top before our great decent, everyone already had a smile across their face. As we started riding, I reached into the snack bag to pull out one last treat. It was a group effort to finished the beer as we were screaming down the hill into our campsite.

While at Point Coville, we happened across a haggle of painters… at least that’s what I think you call a group of them.
